About 5000 persons were displaced due to the recent attack in some villages in Plateau State where over 200 persons were killed, are under serious starvation as the government has failed to provide them with relief materials.

According to the member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Istifanus Gyang, among the displaced are over 70% women and children.

Having lost their homes, assets and farm crops following the killings and burnings by assailants believed to be Fulani herdsmen, these women and children presently in at least six Internally Displaced Persons camps might be in difficult humanitarian conditions.

Gyang after delivering humanitarian aid to the camps in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area said,
“The situation is very pathetic and challenging”.

DAILY POST gathered that no government support has been confirmed to have reached the IDPs since the attacks occurred days ago.
It would be recalled that, President Muhammad Buhari was in Jos,to meet with the State government officials over the killings.

The President in his speech announced measures to curb the violence but said nothing specifically to address the humanitarian crises created by the attacks.
Even though Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, had assured that the affected communities would benefit from the N10 billion rehabilitation fund due for release by the Federal Government; this is not an immediate measure to bring succour to the displaced persons.
Aside losing harvested crops and other valuables, the displaced villagers might find it difficult continuing their sole occupation of farming, raising fears of famine in the near future.
