Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM) has reopened for academic activities inline with the directive of the University Senate at its 294th Regular Meeting held on Thursday 4th October, 2018.
The University reopened on 2nd November, 2018 after months of students inactivity as a result of the August 15th 2018 violent protest that led to the wanton destruction of University property.
As at the time of this report, clusters of students were seen striding the University gate in a bid to be screened, documented and allowed entry in the University campus for subsequent semester examinations which is scheduled to commence on Monday 5th November, 2018.
some returning students who spoke with UAMNews including Ocheje Blessing of the Department of Nutrition and Diathetics, Stephen Ochowechi of Animal Breeding and Physiology all expressed delight to be back in school but described the the screening exercise as slow and strenuous as most of them were yet to be attended to. On his part, Mr Aondona Ihagh Geoffrey of the Department of Mathematics/Computer also expressed happiness over the reopening of the school but wondered why it took the University Administration so long to reach a decision. He then called on his fellow students to shun all forms of violence and be of good conduct in order to avoid a repeat of the ugly situation.
When contacted, the Admission Officer Mrs R.M Kpamor described the exercise as smooth and flexible but lamented the late arrival and lack of preparedness on the part of the students as screening officers were making extra efforts to guide the students through the exercise. Mrs Kpamor then charged the student to always hold decorum in high esteem as their certificates will be awarded both in character and learning.
